Awesome vocals and intelligent songwriting make this guitar driven roots-rock album a must-have. Part folk and part rock 'n roll, Lonnie Rathie shows her two sides equally beautifully-think Natalie Merchant meets Chrissie Hynde.
Canadian singer-songwriter Lonnie Rathie's second CD is a rockier effort featuring more guitar tracks and harmony vocals than her first album. The title track is stripped down to the bare basics to highlight her strong vocals and lyrics and the uptempo (almost danceable!) 'Bright Lights, Big City' pays homage to New York, where she has spent a lot of time. She maintains intelligent and personal songwriting while throwing in some fun stuff for good measure. The CD was recorded in Canada with some tracks remixed in New York and one song -'One In A Million' written after the rest of the CD was finished and recorded in the NYC studio acoustically. She continues to grow as an artist and performer. Pick up her debut album 'Travelling Alone' on CDbaby.com

| home sweet home...? - Friday, June 19, 2009Well- who would have thunk it? After a month away in North America, including NYC, Calgary, Jasper and LA, I am back home in Sydney and feeling weirdly happy and comfortable to be back! Had a great gig at the regular Excelsior Glebe Hotel last night and work was nice to come back to.
So I am looking to get a little girl band going now and record a new CD as well. I met a female percussionist yesterday and now I just need a bassist.
Look for footage on the show from the Excelsior on Youtube later this week!
As usual I am going to try to update my blogs here more regularily but we will see how that actually pans out!
Looking to play some different venues and meet some more 'musos' here in Sydney!

| How did it get to be April 2009? - Sunday, April 12, 2009
How did it get to be ARPIL 2009??? I am amazed at how quickly time has been passing lately! I am still working teaching ESL and have one amazing guitar student who is also showing signs of brilliant songwriting abilities which I am trying my best to hone. Next month my husband and I are going to North America for a friend's wedding and to visit my hometown of Calgary. I have to admit that even though I have been playing gigs about every month or so, my own music has taken a backseat- albeit unconsciously- to 'life'. Even now as I sit writing this, I wish I was just playing guitar and keep promising to take a day and just write and play but somehow it never happens things keep getting in the way... lousy excuses I know! I think I am going to have to lock myself in a room and just get it done. Hopefully I will feel more inspired when I am travelling again. It has been a year too long of not being on an airplane and I feel sometimes like I am a caged animal on this island down under. All in all, things are fine (fine!), but I keep feeling like I am living in slow motion or waiting for something big to happen. Does anyone know what I mean? Anyways- this isn't really about anything but I felt the need to write and this is what came out. Peace, love and music. |
